Metis Artist Guy Gagne
Biography:
Guy was born and raised as a Metis. He was inspired by his father Jean Noel Gagne. His father was a self taught artist, and had a passion for nature. Guy started to draw at a very early age and was encouraged by all his teachers. Guy, had developed a new style of art which was perceived as Metis Art. It was recognized in 1982 as one of the Native Woodland styles of Art.
In 1982 and 1983, Guy won First Place throughout Ontario. The grade 9 to grade 12 award for best art, while growing up in Timmins, Ontario. Mr. Gagne, has allowed Red Sky Metis Independent Nation to display this unique art, via schoolnet hoping to inspire the Metis youth in Canada.
Guy is also a certified industrial painter/glazer through the Painters and Allied Trade Union, but is now retired due to a disability. He is a Confederation College Graduate of Aboriginal Law and Advocacy. He graduated in 1998. He has worked with many aboriginal groups and the Federal Government of Canada.
Guy was designated by the Justice department of Canada in becoming a Federal Firearms Licence Assistant Officer, working closely with the Privy Council of Canada. In regards to the Aboriginal component of the Firearms Legislation.
Guy has returned back to his art to preserve the culture of the Metis People of Canada and for his love for it. Guy Gagne's sponser is Gypsy's Gems And Gifts of Thunder Bay, Ontario since January 2013.
